Autophoretic coating plant for Tenneco Automotive - Monroe Czechia
Monroe Czechia Ltd., Hodkovice nad Mohelkou as a part of multinational Tenneco Automotive concern is a manufacturer of shock absorbers and mufflers. A shock absorber autophoretic coating line has been delivered for this company.
The autophoretic coating is based on deposition of the paint on the steel surface by a chemical reaction taking place between the paint and the steel surface. It is used for coating shock absorbers in the assembled state whereas the chromeplated piston rode or rubber silent block is not affected by the deposited paint.
Autophoretic paint is deposited in places whose surface has been wetted i.e. also inside pipes. It provides even layer of coating film also on sharp edges which represents the major difference compared to other coating systems.

Prior the coating the surface is pretreated by spray degreasing, pickling, rinsing and final DI water rinsing.

Autophoretic coating is applied by dipping. Multistage dip rinsing follows. The shock absorbers are transported by an overhead chain conveyor.

The autophoretic paint is cured at 130 °C for 25 minutes.

The coating line was delivered together with a wastewater treatment station. It is designed as continuous, semiautomatic and equipped with a final polishing ionexchange filter.
